The Brisbane based Formula 1 powerboat team of Bob and David Trask continued their solid form with the Trask Development Corporation team scoring points again in the third round of the 2007 UIM World F1 Powerboat series at Xi’an in China.
David Trask started in pole position number 8 with the Trask Development Corporation boat #4 but worked his way through the field to finish in the points with a great 5th position outright. Older brother Bob Trask came home in 11th position after qualifying in 13th position, in a 23 boat strong field.
“This was a wild race,” David Trask said. “While we didn’t qualify as well as we would have liked, starting in pole position number 8 put us in a good position from which to mount a serious assault on the race leaders.”
Team mate and brother, Bob Trask, started the race weekend on a downer when he destroyed a gearbox.
“This competition at the elite Formula 1 level is very intense and very competitive,” Bob Trask said. “While we were fast, we were also a bit off the pace and paid for it with a mid field grid position.”
David Trask qualified just 0.72 seconds behind the pole sitter with a log jam of 8 drivers at the front of the field separated by less than 1 second. A similar situation presented through the GP where David Trask posted the fifth fastest lap in racing again just one second behind the fastest team.
The dramas for Bob Trask had only just started. Before the race the cockpit in his race boat filled with fuel. After a hasty return to the pits for repairs, Bob had to start the race from the back of the field. Achieving an 11th placing after starting at the back was a fine effort.
In the Xi’an F1 GP itself there were accidents aplenty with three re-starts caused by various F1 boats crashing out.
At the conclusion of the third round of the UIM F1 World Championship, David Trask is placed 8th in the Drivers Table for the World Championship of 2007.
The next round of the 2007 UIM World F1 Powerboat series is to be staged at Shenzhen, China on Sunday October 21st.
